The Strathmere Improvement Association includes owners and visitors to Strathmere and Whale Beach. It was founded in 1951 as a community organization with the objective of making Strathmere a better place. Dedicated to preserving life in our coastal community, we serve as a conduit of news and information, social gatherings and interaction with other organizations in town.
About Us
Since 1951 the Strathmere Improvement Association has been a voice for STM homeowners and visitors. The strength of the SIA has always been in the willingness of its members to step up when needed. We need you now. For the past 25 years or longer, only four people have served as president: Elizabeth Bergus, Butch Vandegrift, Linda Bateman, and Janice Connell. Now it’s time for someone else to step up-and not for multiple years-just two. In recent years, our bylaws were approved to include a two-year term for officers. Now we’re asking you to run for one, two-year term, not a multi-year commitment. (All officers, except for one member-at-large, will have their terms end this fall.) When you run, you’ll inherit a thriving organization waiting for you to help guide it to the best of your abilities and strengths. Linda Bateman and Janice Connell worked to bring the infrastructure up to date, build up membership and participation, and give purpose to our meeting time together. We’ve made great strides in increased visibility and recognition, built up the treasury, worked with other organizations in town, and established firm ties with the mainland. And we’re not going anywhere. You’d have us to rely on for background info and mentorship if you want it. Please consider nominating someone or self nominate.
